This is so totally and completely UNFAIR. I can say for the first time since finding out I'm growing a human I actually have a craving. This is HUGE for me, since food and I have not been the best of pals lately and to actually CRAVE something instead of it just sounding tolerable is landmark in my book. "Great! Grand! Wonderful!" you say? Not so much, and I'll tell you why. I am craving cottage cheese, and not just any cottage cheese but the most delicious cottage cheese ever - Michigan brand cottage cheese. I have tried a few others from time to time and was always depressed, like to the point of throwing it out. And why is craving this particular brand a problem? BECAUSE I'M IN FREAKING TEXAS WHERE THEY DON'T SELL MICHIGAN COTTAGE CHEESE! This is a huge dilemma now, since all I can think about is that wonderful cottage cheese. I found out the Michigan brand is considered "Old Fashion" or "Farmer's cheese" and is a dry cottage cheese. I wonder now if this type of cottage cheese is available anywhere near me. My first try will be stopping by the grocery store on the way home and trying a variety of the brands they offer to see if anything works. If not, then it looks like I'll be hitting up a Whole Foods or Central Market to see what they have to offer. Hopefully I can find something that taste close enough to my prized cottage cheese to help get me paste this hump. If not, it looks like I'll be finding someway to get some of it shipped to me since I can't wait until August to get some (I'll be in the mitten state for my BFF's wedding).
Damn you cravings!!!

That's so funny -- because I craved cottage cheese earlier in my pregnancy, too. I can remember sitting down with a meal of cottage cheese, summer sausage and vanilla wafers spread out in front of me. Weird, huh?
I hope you can find SOME kind of cottage cheese to satisfy your craving!
I am a total cottage cheese whore. I probably eat more of the stuff than any other human on the planet. Michigan is my favorite, though I've found it to be pretty inconsistent over the years. When the small-curd is good, it's the best ever. When the large-curd is good, it's only surpassed by the small-curd.
That said, I occasionally find myself craving the Lucerne brand from Safeway. That's a damn fine version they have. If you have Safeway in your area, check it out.
Yes, I live in Michigan, but when I go to other parts of the country I always sample their cottage cheese. I discovered Lucerne in the '80s and bought lots of it a few years back during a trip to Seattle. I'm a freak.
I have been addicted to cottage cheese since I was a child. My grandmother made homemade cottage cheese. I has always been my favorite food. I have a bootlegger I get some from every once in a while, but not often enough.
I have tried every cottage cheese known to man. Then, Eureka!! I found Michigan Brand cottage cheese. It is the closest thing to homemade there is. I live in Kentucky on Dale Hollow Lake. I have a daughter that brings it to me from Louisville. The only place I have found to purchase it is at Meijer's grocery stores
Today I called my daughter to bring me some and they told her it was not on the shelf because it has been discontinued. FREAK OUT!!!
I immediately got on the internet found the Michigan cottage cheese site and called them. I am to call back tomorrow after they talk to thier sales rep. to find out where I can get it now.
I will go in to DT's if I do not find it again, and I am not pregnant. Haaaa.
Thanks for the tip on Lucerne brand from Safeway. I am now on the hunt for it as well.
Hi there - totally random person coming across your story here, but I wanted to let you know that I am equally obsessed with Michigan brand cottage cheese. I refuse to eat anything else! I read that at Whole Foods, if you find the Friendship brand "California Style" cottage cheese, it is exactly the same. The key word is "California Style". Hope you ended up finding something that worked for your craving - I know this comment is waaaaaay later than the post. :) Best!
